Household appliances constitute approximately 40 per cent of the electricity used in private households, and are also widely used in nurseries and hospitals. The public sector procures large volumes of household appliances to buildings owned and managed by public housing associations.

The Swedish Environmental Management Council has developed an evaluation tool for procurement of dishwashers, fridges, freezers and washing machines that can be used in the procurement process.
