About us

The Swedish Environmental Management Council, SEMCo, is the Swedish government's expert body on environmental and other sustainable procurement.

The activities of government-owned corporation SEMCo are intended to facilitate for organisations in the public, private and third sector to initiate and further develop their systematic and voluntary work on sustainability issues.

Green public procurement (GPP) is a market-based and powerful tool in the process of guiding society towards long-term sustainable production and consumption.

SEMCo cooperates with many national and international project partners. In addition to its criteria work, SEMCo raises awareness on GPP among politicians and decision-makers through seminars, conferences and e-learning. Swedish procurers can contact SEMCo's helpdesk for questions on sustainable procurement.

SEMCo's GPP criteria portfolio is regularly updated with new product groups. Since 2006 criteria on social responsibility have been integrated into many of its criteria documents.
